Radna Sakhaltuev’s art exemplifies a profound intuition that captures both the aesthetics of its era and its contradictions. He moves with ease between succinct graphic solutions, the grotesque, folkloric imagery, and satirical precision. Each work bears an unmistakable authorial signature, suffused with life-affirming optimism. The title of the retrospective comes from Nina Vasylenko’s film “A Merry Artist,” which marked Sakhaltuev’s first credit as an art director at the Kyivnaukfilm studio. This short animated story shows how, with a pencil, imagination, and optimism, one can create an entire world. In this retrospective we present only a portion of his works, yet we hope it reveals to audiences the many facets of the mastery of this great and merry artist.
