Experimental Animation and Video Art | Events meant to be forgotten
Zhovten. Kinoman Hall

04.09 | 20:00

The title of this block speaks for itself. Memory, which is a popular theme in art, is represented here from personal and subjective perspectives. It is revealed in diverse stories: an obsessive desire to engrave memories of the family home, a moment of silent tenderness of lovers, joys of a daily walk. Some films of this programme take personal memories to another level when it comes to important events and phenomena documented in official history, myths or mass culture. With this animation selection, we ask the question: how do memory mechanisms work? What is worth remembering and what should be forgotten?

These two Archives were found at a flea market in Zagreb. One is of a famous architect and the other of a famous composer. The film ponders on this occurrence, as well as on the vanishing and forgetfulness of humans.

  • Sun Sonification
    Ryan Betschart

    USA | 03:43 | 2020

A rumination on the passive politics of whiteness. My character's own flippant attitude towards the mention of racial injustice is both a nod towards the ignorance of white youth and the begging of the question - if I had known, would I have cared beyond a shallow verbal support of the oppressed? A hard day at the pool and the call to dinner being my siren song - an invitation to wash my hands literally and figuratively - guilty thoughts running down the drain, making room for a never ending beach party summer.
