Winners & Specials

During the well-visited 2 DAYS ANIMATION FESTIVAL in Vienna, which started as a project of ASIFA Austria in 2004 as ONE DAY ANIMATION FESTIVAL, since 2011 the BEST AUSTRIAN ANIMATION competition presents an annual overview of relevant productions in the field of animation. The programme wants to present the rich variety animation can offer: narrative and experimental, figurative and abstract, analog and digital, and all kind of hybrid films realized by amateurs, students, independent artists and commercial studios. A professional jury selects the ASIFA Austria Award (2.000.- Euro) for the best film and prizes in several categories, and also the audience can choose one film from each of the three programmes.

For LINOLEUM we present a selection of Winning Films and Specials from the 2018 edition. The screening is supported by The Austrian Cultural Forum in Kyiv.

    A city tour through the architecture of an Online Shooter. The film is based on the dystopian multiplayer shooter Tom Clancy’s: The Division. In this work, the game’s digital war zone is appropriated with the help of an artistic operation. Within the rules of the software, the militaristic environment is being reused for a pacifistic city tour.

    The film was shot on train rides with the LOMO SUPERSAMPLER, while passing train stations and land-scapes. The camera decomposes the entity of the passing scenery. All the pieces and parts of the journey depict lost places and forgotten homes, and were reconstructed to a new landscape during post-production.
