Julie Nobelen

07.09 | 10:30 | IZONE ground floor

Animation is first and foremost a search for new, unprecedented techniques to tell the story. The technique of linocuts dates back to the time when the world’s first books were published. Now, in the digital age, it’s hard to surprise the audience. Julie Nobelin, a French animator and animation film writer, participant of the French-Ukrainian project Another Language; Another Vision (the video Fourchette), will hold a workshop on the technique of linoleum engraving. 15 participants of the workshop will be able to learn in practice all the intricacies of working with linocut, and Julie will share her experience in creating animation in these techniques.

Workshop is held for 15 people by registration https://bit.ly/2ZVkuO6 materials will be handed out to each participant.

Speaker:

After thesis about vampires for her dental surgery Ph.D, Julie Nobelen worked as a dentist for 5 years. But people are not there to hear her stories and she’s not allowed to draw on their teeth. So she begins her retraining in animation, mostly as a scriptwriter or as a consultant. During that period, she co-founded the Art Brutal association, organising workshops, exhibitions as well as a grant for a first animated film... She's currently working on multiple projects with talented directors such as Bastien Dubois or Chenghua Yang. After attending the european Animation Sans Frontières program in 2018-2019, she's developing an animated short to make her director debut.

Running Time 180 min.
