It is the sixth event in a row where LINOLEUM promotes and develops contemporary short animation genre. This time, the program of the largest international animation festival of the country supported by Ukrainian Cultural Foundation, remains rich and diverse, targeting different age groups with different tastes and preferences. The number of animation filmmakers from different countries of the world willing to take part in it is only growing every year. In total, over 2700 animation films were submitted. The festival team has carefully reviewed all the films, having spent more than 300 hours in total, and formed the list of participants for each competition program. The judgment criteria included the technical level of production, storytelling, and the relevance of the topics raised. Besides, the requirement was that the animation part should be more than 40% of the film length, and that the whole film should not be longer than 30 minutes. Also, the additional advantage for the participants was focusing on this year's theme - COMMON GROUND. Official teaser:
About 50% of all the applications have been submitted to the international competition program, and the expert commission has selected 52 animation films for the participation in the contest. In this international section, the visitors to LINOLEUM 2019 will be able to get acquainted with the works of animation film from the USA, Great Britain, Germany, France, Denmark, Poland, Israel, Brazil, Estonia, China, Japan, Iran, Lebanon, etc. The films of the international competition will tell about challenging journeys undertaken to the backstages of life and behind the boundaries of consciousness; about family relations that hurt and about coming-of-age that nobody expects; about the labyrinths of relationships, where the features of plants and animals become human, and vice versa. What can two people think about when they are separated by only a strip of a beach towel or a corner of kitchen table? What is the difference between equality and equalization, and what are the colors of these two concepts as they are seen through the artist’s imagination? What do bears, sea, migrants and a typewriter have in common? The short films carefully selected by the festival team from different parts of the world will answer all these questions.
About 90 works have been submitted to the Ukrainian competition section, from which the commission has chosen 8. In this section, the following films will compete: "Mark Tulip who spoke with flowers" directed by Dana Kavelina, "Deep Love" by Nikita Liskov, "Forest song" by Andriy Naumenko, "Here by herself" by Anna Dudko, "Until it Becomes Black" by Anastasia Falileeva, "petrivka-requiem" by Katerina Voznytsia, "The Great Bright Future" by Roman Lysenko and "The Cord" by Olexander Bubnov.
