September 6 | 21:00

We wanted to make a very fun programme of experimental works but lost our joy halfway: thus, most of the films represented here will leave our spectators lost somewhere between entertainment and seriousness. To smile or to keep on searching the meanings – that would be the personal choice for everyone, the choice is optional and sometimes impossible. Don't worry If you will not like something, there's some nice ASMR animation in the programme also.

Running time 90 min.

SOLD OUT

  • Dont Know What
    Thomas Renoldner

    Austria | 08:06 | 2019

The film combines elements of mainstream cinema, like an entertaining dramaturgy or slapstick-like effects with strategies of avant-garde cinema or video art, like formal and aesthetic reduction of the imagery, extreme short-cut technique and sound experiments. The audience is then left to find their way between humor and seriousness in this strange "genre-hybrid".

  • Twilight
    Richard Reeves

    Canada | 02:00 | 2018

Exploring the relationship between sound and picture, this film is inspired by the two lights (twi-light) found inside of film projectors. Experimental animation created by applying both sound and picture directly onto 35mm film. Once the soundtrack was created each individual sound was assigned a specific shape and colour that repeats through out the entire composition. Visual shapes were airbrushed and hand painted onto orange mask (negative film), then printed positive for further rendering by bleaching or scratching into the films emulsion before the final print copy was made. Sounds are made by hand from drawing Spirograph moire patterns onto clear mylar sheets, cut out and then stuck on 35mm film optical sound area, played through a moviola and recorded into a computer for composition. Many sounds are just one to twelve frames long.
