K-Energy, is a video piece featuring a cute, anthropomorphized Bacchus bottle. Bacchus is the name of one Korea’s oldest and most well-known energy drinks. The marketing and advertising around energy drinks mirrors the dominant ideology of capitalist society, which individualized failings of the system and tells us that ‘if you put in a little more effort, all your problems will be solved’. By anthropomorphizing the bacchus bottle as a living breathing character, this work interrogates the the darker side of Korean society which is often considered inevitable and unfixable, such as long working hours, suffocating family relations, and hyper-competitiveness.
