Love is blindness. Love hurts. Love is a battlefield. This thing called love is supposed to be the sunrise of our existence, the river that quenches our thirst in the desert of loneliness. So why does it so often reduce us to temperamental children in a playground, hurling hurt at each other?
Maybe we demand too much from love. We expect it to be eternal, all encompassing. It will solve us, but we should adjust our expectations. As Robert Pollard sang, “Can’t imagine that all our troubles will go away, but I could catch her and break the falls. I could snatch her with beaks and claws.”
Love can make things better, not perfect.
