On May 27, call for entries to the international and commissioned films competitions closed; however, the call for entries to the national competition was extended to June 30.
This year, about 2,500 animation works from 75 countries were submitted to the festival. The USA, UK, and France became leaders by the number of applications. Selection results are to be announced at the end of July. Just a reminder: in 2018, LINOLEUM will take place in Kyiv for the fifth time, on September 6-9. The location is IZONE creative space.
The theme of this year’s festival is Fading Borders, so the focus will be the boundaries of modernity, the influence of new technologies, and fresh challenges provoking us to review former borders and to search for new horizons. In the time when humans are faced with a choice – use someone else’s discoveries or try to make one’s own – visual arts become a pivotal tool to create the worlds yet unknown.
Traditionally, LINOLEUM program will consist of experimental animation and video art screenings, children’s animation, theme selections, Ukrainian animation retrospective, screenings of international festivals programs, and educational program.
The prize fund of the festival amounts to 5,000 USD which will be divided between three competitions. Applications are welcome from everyone whose works do not exceed 30 minutes (including end credits), were produced in 2017 or 2018 and contain no less than 40 percent of animation. The films are accepted via festival platform filmfreeway.
