The lecture will open with a screening of the short film “The Shyness of Trees,” a nominee for this year’s Student Academy Awards. Following the screening, Sofiia will give a detailed walkthrough of the animation filmmaking process, speak about her studies at GOBELINS, l’école de l’image, and share insights into teamwork.

In 2020, Sofiia Chuikovska graduated from the T. H. Shevchenko State Art Lyceum in Kyiv. That same year, following an interview, she was admitted directly to the second year of the BA programme in 2D/3D Animation at LISAA (L’Institut Supérieur des Arts Appliqués), Paris. In 2022, she enrolled in the MA in Animation Directing at GOBELINS, l’école de l’image—one of the world’s most prestigious animation schools. During her studies she co-directed the graduation film “The Shyness of Trees,” which has since become a finalist for the Student Academy Awards and BAFTA, and has received awards at numerous leading animation festivals. Sofia currently works as a freelance 2D animator and is developing pitches for her next short animated projects.
